Some are expanding: Art Institute of Chicago

Even with assets shrinking, and money tight, the Art Institute of Chicago--one of my favourite museums--is expanding its wing(s).

A new wing of more than 200,000 square feet will make the Art Institute of Chicago the second largest museum in the country. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York ranks first.

  1. Well . . . they also greatly expanded their admission fee, although they claim it's unrelated to the costs of the modern wing. All I know is, bad timing. Bad economy, major wing opens, double (I think) admission price—not a good combo.

  2. Pity it isn't seen as positive.

Personally, I advocate for free admission to all museums...wistfully and wishing.

And yes, timing is often a make or break issue.

    Thanks for stopping by.
