The Journey, a newly translated novel by H. G. Adler, is receiving mixed reviews. However, mixed or not, the book captured my attention for several reasons, the first being the surname he gives his fictional family: Lustigs. I know a family with that name who survived Theresienstadt, their daughter was a close friend and colleague.
I also seem to have been totally unaware of this writer, as I am of so many others especially as we receive fewer translations here in the States than they do in Britain.
I miss all those readily available Penguins and my reading crowd in Amsterdam, several of whom were in publishing, and would keep abreast of so many good books and keep me informed.
