Someone, somewhere, somehow mentioned Paris.Papier Plus has some fine handmade journals and a journal made of bible paper--yes, thin paper, and perhaps something like the Allan's Journal.
It is also more expensive but looks more substantial.
Now if I miss The Village Voice because I no longer live in New York City, you can imagine how much I miss Paris where each morning I could get the best, freshest croissant at any bakery, take the Metro anywhere, sit at the edge of the Seine, imbibe art hourly, drink dark rich cafe au lait, spend evenings listening to jazz and sipping Pernod while engaged in a heated philosophic discussion.
Those were the days!
